- The Mental Health Counseling Services provide much needed support and counseling to children diagnosed and in treatment for childhood cancer in New Mexico. In some cases, issues arise after treatment and the Children’s Cancer Fund provides counseling services to those young adults as well. Children being treated at New Mexico Pediatric Oncology facilities, as well as their siblings, are eligible for mental health services. Children participate in Art Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy as a way of expressing feelings and emotions that are often difficult to identify as a child and while battling cancer. The Children’s Cancer Fund counseling office is a safe, supportive and cheerful environment, where all children are greeted with a hug and a smile. Shunnae Love, MA, LMHC, is Children’s Cancer Fund’s Clinic Liaison. She specializes in Child Counseling and her modality is Play and Sand Tray Therapy.
Grief and Loss Support
- The Children’s Cancer Fund of NM provides a grief and loss support group for parents/caregivers who have lost a child due to childhood cancer. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment led by clinical psychologist, Sonja Clark, Psyd, LPCC. Currently, the group is held in Albuquerque and we welcome all families who would like to travel in to join us. The group is always open and you can join at any time.
